Research Projects

What do research on HIV, cancer, peace and livelihood interventions, and health equity in the US, Rwanda, India, Nigeria, and the Caribbean all have in common? Surprisingly, everything.

They all strangely focus on understanding local determinants of mental and physical well-being. The trajectory of this research is broadly influenced by principles of participatory research and liberation theology, and specifically shaped by Kang’s clinical and community work with children, adolescents, and adults living with HIV since the 1990’s (don’t bother with the math). This work keeps coming back to one big idea: local realties and participation matters a whole lot. Curious about what we’re working on now and have wrapped up? Check out below.
